With Thanksgiving right around the corner, there are so many charitable ways to get involved in our community. This time of year is filled with fundraisers and charity events, so here are a few options to find which ones resonate with you!
Hoodies for Homeless
This month, the HPHS hockey will be organizing a donation drive in order to collect hoodies for homeless people. Living in Chicago, all of us understand that when Winter rolls around, temperatures can drop to dangerous, even deadly conditions. Donating your old hoodies can make a world of difference to those who don’t have the resources to buy warm winter clothes. Collection boxes are located at the HPHS “H” entrance and at Centennial Ice Arena from now until Thanksgiving.
Stuff a Bus
Stuff a Bus is a fundraiser intended to gather food donations for Moraine Township Food Pantry, helping families suffering from food insecurity. Donations will be collected during homeroom, and specific items are requested per grade level. Freshmen are asked to bring in seasonings, tomato paste, crackers, and dried lentils. Sophomores, bring in instant coffee, toothpaste, and household cleaners. Juniors, bring in canned tuna, salmon, chicken, and laundry detergent sheets. Finally, Seniors bring in shampoo, soap, and deodorant. Your donations will make a huge impact!
PTO Pie Fundraiser
The PTO is organizing a pie fundraiser to support HPHS staff and student grants. Order an Elegant Farmer pie before November 11 to check another box off your Thanksgiving to-do list. There are so many delicious options to order, including Apple Pie, Caramel Apple Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Door County Cherry Crisp, or Banana & Pumpkin Bread. You can also donate an Apple Pie to Moraine Township Food Pantry. Pre-ordered frozen pies must be picked up curbside at HPHS on Monday, 11/24, between 8:30-10:00 AM or 2:00-3:30 PM. Visit hphspto.org/pie to order today.
The month leading up to Thanksgiving is always filled with opportunities to do good in the community. There is something for everyone, whether it be donating money, food, or even just your time. Let’s come together as a community to spread kindness to those who need it the most!
