With Halloween right around the corner, everybody has been scrolling on TikTok, Instagram, and more, searching for ideas. Halloween extends beyond one night due to the fact that it lands on a Friday. Here are the top trends for this spooky season to help with your preparation!
Of course, costumes are one of the biggest parts of the holiday. Costume trends have definitely been influenced by the numerous big TV shows and movies that came out this year
With the recent release of Wicked, Elphaba and Glinda will likely be popular, especially for duos. Netflix is also having a huge influence this year, with people dressing up as HUNTR/X from K-Pop Demon Hunters and characters from The Addams Family, which is not necessarily exclusive to this year. On TikTok and Instagram, many people are dressing up as classic book characters such as Cinderella, Snow White, and Belle. Nonetheless, kids are not the only ones dressing up this year. Reports from the Halloween & Costume Association state that 51% of adults are planning to dress up this year! More than half of them also plan to decorate their houses and yards for the month.
Speaking of yard decorations, trends aren’t just for clothing. With people decorating inside and outside their homes, there have been more than a few patterns to emerge. While classics like spooky candles, pumpkin-themed things, skeletons, and ghosts never go out of style, new decor has surfaced that has a spin on these traditions. An article from The New York Times reported on the popularity of bizarre plates that have human-like animals on them. Moreover, Anthropologie is now selling birdseed skull ornaments, which have a positive environmental impact while maintaining a spooky theme.
Food also plays a large role. The whole goal of going trick-or-treating is to gather candy, anyway. According to The Food Institute, this year, the top three most popular candies are Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups, Peanut M&M’s, and plain M&M’s. A survey they conducted also found that people who want to eat healthier are eating SkinnyDipped Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, BarkTHINS, TruFru, and Unreal Chocolate for their Halloween this year.
From big movies and TikTok-inspired costumes to cute, trendy decor, this Halloween is going to have new and old trends everywhere. The holiday has something for kids and adults to have fun, and isn’t limited to one or the other. These trends will help make it fun for everyone with traditional and new ideas.
