The 2025 MLB World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays was one to remember! Here’s a game-by-game recap of all the things you might have missed.
Game 1: The Dodgers started off hot, up 2-0 from Catcher (C) Will Smith and First Baseman (1B) Enrique Hernàndez, scoring 1-run singles. Then came the bottom of the 4th where it all fell apart. Los Angeles Pitcher (P) Blake Snell threw a fastball to Toronto Center Fielder (CF) Daulton Varsho, launching 423 feet into the air for a home-run, tying the game. The Blue Jays then went on to score 9 consecutive runs, including a grand slam from Third Baseman (3B) Addison Barger! Blue Jays win, 11-4. TOR Leads: 1-0
Game 2: The Dodgers led the charge once again, with a single by Will Smith earning a run for Los Angeles. Not long after, Blue Jays C Alejandro Kirk tied the game with an RBI sac fly, but this would be the last time they scored that day. The Dodgers went on to command the rest of the game, with Will Smith hitting an impressive 3 RBI’s. Blue Jays P Jeff Hoffman helped seal the deal for the Dodgers with a top of the 8th wild pitch that allowed every Dodger to advance a base, and sent CF Andy Pages to home base. Dodgers win, 5-1. Series Tied: 1-1
Game 3: For the third game in a row, the Dodgers scored first, with Right Fielder (RF) Teoscar Hernández and Designated Hitter (DH) Shohei Ohtani both hitting solo home runs. Toronto’s Alejandro Kirk quickly responded in the 4th, hitting a 3-run home-run to take the lead. This was then followed by an RBI by Toronto Second Baseman (2B) Andrés Giménez, then an Ohtani 1-run double, Los Angeles First Baseman (1B) Freddie Freeman 1-run single, Toronto Shortstop (SS) Bo Bichette 1-run single, and an Ohtani solo home-run. The score was tied 5-5 in the bottom of the 7th, but another run wasn’t scored until the 18th inning! This game was so long that Toronto played 9 pitchers and Los Angeles played 10! Freddie Freeman finally hit a Walk-off solo homer to end the longest MLB game in post season history! (5-way tie by innings.) Dodgers win, 6-5. LAD Leads: 2-1
Game 4: It’s no surprise that the Dodgers scored first with an Enrique Hernàndez RBI, followed immediately by Blue Jays 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s 2-run home run. 4 innings later, at the top of the 7th, Toronto went on a 4-run streak, 3 of which being singles. Even Dodgers 2B Tommy Edman’s RBI wasn’t enough to save the Dodgers from their pitching nightmare of a game. The blowout was finished, and Toronto showed Dodger’s stadium how they roll. Blue Jays win, 6-2. Series Tied: 2-2
Game 5: Blue Jays Left Fielder (LF) Davis Schneider broke the 4-game starting score streak for the Dodgers by hitting a solo home-run, and a Guerrero Jr. solo home run directly followed. And although Dodgers’ Enrique Hernàndez came back to hit a solo home run, no one else could. The Blue Jays dominated the rest of this game, with both 3rd basemen scoring, Ernie Clement hitting an RBI and Addison Barger finding home via wild pitch. Bo Bichette hit a 1-run single and the blowout was almost over. Even Toronto backup SS Isiah Kiner-Falefa wanted in on some of the fun and solidified the game with a 1-run single! Blue Jays win, 6-1. TOR Leads: 3-2
Game 6: With the series on the line, this game was highly important for the Blue Jays. The starting pitchers for both teams had fantastic games, with Dodgers Yoshinobu Yamamoto playing 6 innings with 1 earned run and 6 strikeouts, while Blue Jays Kevin Gausman also played 6 innings, but with 3 earned runs and 8 strikeouts. This game was the least eventful for the series, as all of the scoring was in the 3rd inning, starting off with a Will Smith 1-run double and a SS Mookie Betts 2-run single (which broke Betts’ 28-ab RBI drought.) Toronto quickly followed with a George Springer 1-run single, but couldn’t catch up the rest of the game. The most crucial part of the game, though, was in the bottom of the 9th, where Andrés Giménez hit a line drive ball to left field, causing a double play when Addison Barger was caught tagging to 2nd. Dodgers win, 3-1. Series Tied: 3-3
Game 7: The big game. Everything came up to this, and they sure played like it did. The runs began in the 3rd inning with Bo Bichette’s 3-run 442 feet home run. The Dodgers responded quickly with a Teoscar Hernández sacrifice RBI in the top of the 4th. In the same inning, Los Angeles reliever Justin Wrobleski hit Toronto SS Andrés Giménez with a pitch. Both dugouts erupted, as they confronted each other on the field and coaches were holding players back from fighting. It was made clear that no violence occurred, but some trash talk was mutual. With the Dodgers down 1-3, they needed a boost, and Tommy Edman delivered with another sacrifice RBI. But sadly for them, in the same inning, Andrés Giménez hit a double resulting in 1-run to keep the difference the same. At the top of the 8th, Dodgers 3B Max Muncy brought the heat back with a solo home run to right field, and in the top of the 9th, 2B Miguel Rojas broke his 1 month hit drought with a solo homer as well. The game was tied and Daulton Varsho grounded Yamamoto’s 93mph splitter to second, which resulted in a very crucial forceout at home due to Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s short leadoff at 3rd, resulting in extra innings. The 10th inning had 1 hit for Los Angeles, and a 3-in-3-out for Toronto. The 11th inning was quite different. Rojas grounded out, Ohtahni grounded out, but Smith had different plans. Toronto’s P Shane Bieber threw a slider right down the middle that Will Smith devoured and slammed 366 feet to left field for a home-run. The Dodgers were finally ahead and just needed to hold down the bottom of the 11th, and Yamamoto held the fort. The World Series ended with a Kiner-Falefa bunt-out to the pitcher, Barger 4-pitch walk, and a Alejandro Kirk ground ball into 6-3 for a double play. The Toronto Blue Jays choked their 8-inning lead, making the Los Angeles Dodgers the 2025 MLB World Series Champions! Final Score: 5-4 Los Angeles. LAD Win: 4-3
Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was named the World Series MVP and for the first time in 25 years, a MLB team has won the world series 2 years in a row!
