What is the meaning of life? What happens after we die? What does happiness truly mean? Do I wear heels or sneakers to Homecoming? These are some of life’s most burning questions. While I can’t promise answers to the first few, I can definitely weigh in on the last.
While others were moshing to FE!N in the gym, I was moshing to FE!N and observing everyone’s footwear. From what I saw, the majority of people stuck to the classic heels. A few opted for sneakers, but the most surprising to me were the shoes worn by many in the senior class: slippers. Some of the best slippers I saw included ducks, bears, cows, Homer Simpson, and the Italian brainrot ‘Tung Tung Tung Sahur’ (my personal favorite). After a night of dancing in heels, I renewed the same promise I’ve made (and broken) for the past three homecomings: never again.
A word I can use to describe this year’s look is ‘shiny’. This year’s homecoming struck a chord of vibrance and showcased colors from silvers and golds to vibrant sequins. Fashion was bold, sparkling, and blinding in the best way, which was perfect for the disco theme.
In terms of dress styles, there was a mix of sleek, form-fitting looks and flared skirts. Short dresses were the most popular, but some opted for longer floor-length gowns ready for the red carpet. Everyone’s dress was unique, making the dance floor feel more like a fashion show.
When it came to where people got their dresses, Windsor and Macy’s dominated. In spite of the large number of students wearing Windsor dresses, it was a miracle that I didn’t notice any matching outfits. Macy’s was the go-to for those who wanted something a little more classic or elegant, while others purchased from online stores or small boutiques. Even amidst the annual homecoming dress-shopping chaos, everyone was able to pull off a look that was unique to themselves.
This year, most guys stuck to the classic suit and tie combo. A trend that carried over from previous years was friend groups coordinating with the same matching bright-colored suits. Specifically, one group wore dark blue-purple suits and another wore lighter sky-blue. Many also matched their tie color with their date’s dress, a tradition that makes for great, cohesive pictures.
Homecoming 2025 was proof that our school knows how to show up with style. Everybody’s outfit told a story, whether that story was a short satin pastel dress and fish slippers, or a floor-length vibrant sequinned gown and five-inch heels. We definitely all owe our janitors the most appreciation for the glitter cleanup at the end of the night.
