After five weeks of Fantasy Football, the contenders and pretenders have been identified, but that doesn’t mean a season can’t get turned around. No matter where your team is, every start and sit could be the difference between a team winning a championship and one in the toilet bowl. Here is one player at each position that you should start and sit.
Quarterbacks
START: BO NIX (vs NYJ): The Jets’ defense has been a mess, allowing over 30 points per game on average and still searching for their first turnover of the season. After the Broncos’ statement win over the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles, momentum is on their side. In a matchup where Denver should score early and often — and with minimal turnover risk – Bo Nix is set up for a boom-type week.
SIT: TUA TAGOVAILOA (vs LAC): Although Tua is coming off his best game of the year in Week 5, he may not keep the hot hand. He threw a season-high three touchdown passes against the Panthers, but the Chargers haven’t allowed more than one passing touchdown in a single game this year. With Tua averaging only 200 passing yards per game, the numbers don’t support having Tua in the lineup this week.
Running Backs
START: Panthers RBs (vs DAL): Whether it’s just Rico Dowdle or Chuba Hubbard sharing the workload, the Cowboys’ defense ranks 28th in points allowed to running backs. If Dowdle is once again the lone backfield option, this sets up as a revenge game against a team that gave up on him, giving him extra motivation. With one of the highest over/unders of Sunday’s slate, Carolina’s running backs should have plenty of opportunities to produce.
SIT: DERRICK HENRY (vs LAR): The Ravens face a high-powered Rams offense, and with Baltimore’s defense struggling lately — allowing nearly 40 points per game over the past few weeks – game script could quickly work against the run. If the Ravens fall behind early, expect the offense to lean more on the passing game than on Derrick Henry. Averaging just 7 fantasy points over his last four games, Henry hasn’t shown much upside recently, and this matchup doesn’t set up well for a bounce-back. If you have other viable options, it might be wise to leave Henry on the bench this week.
Wide Receivers
START: CALVIN RIDLEY (vs LV): Ridley got off to a slow start with rookie quarterback Cam Ward, but both showed signs of progress in the Titans’ first win of the season last week. As their chemistry continues to grow, Ridley’s production should rise as well. The Raiders’ defense has allowed 70 receptions to wide receivers — the second most in the league — making this a great spot for Ridley to finally find the end zone. Expect the Ward to Ridley connection to keep trending upward against a struggling Las Vegas secondary.
SIT: GARRETT WILSON (vs DEN): Garrett Wilson has been a touchdown machine this season, finding the end zone in four of five games. However, Week 6 brings a tough challenge, as he’s expected to be shadowed by All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II. With quarterback Surtain likely locking in on him, the Jets may look to spread the ball elsewhere. If Wilson doesn’t score, his fantasy production could take a major hit. He’s still a talented option, but with a difficult matchup on deck, you might be better off rolling with a receiver in a more favorable spot this week.
Tight Ends
START: TUCKER KRAFT (vs CIN): The Packers face a struggling Bengals team that’s allowing the most fantasy points to tight ends this season. Green Bay clearly trusts Kraft, especially in the red zone, where he’s become a reliable target. With Cincinnati’s continued struggles defending tight ends, Kraft should be locked into fantasy lineups across the board this week.
SIT: KYLE PITTS (vs BUF): Just like the tight end recommended to be sat last week (Hunter Henry, 6.6 PPR points), Pitts faces a brutal matchup against the Bills. Buffalo has only allowed 113 total yards and one touchdown to tight ends all season. With so many other weapons in the Falcons’ offense and long odds for Pitts to find the end zone against a tough Bills defense, he’s best left on the bench in Week 6.
