On January 11th, the long-awaited 83rd annual Golden Globes ceremony took place. At 8 pm on CBS, the highly anticipated and well-respected award show aired. Hosting it was comedian Nikki Glaser, for the second year running. Her roast-style opening monologue was well-received by the A-list attendees and viewers alike.
Tegan Midank, a student at Highland Park High School, remarked, “Nikki Glaser was hilarious; she made the show super entertaining to watch.”
Such A-listers include celebrities such as Timothee Chalamet, nominated for his performance in Marty Supreme, Michael B. Jordan for Sinners, and many notable others, including Kylie Jenner, Julia Roberts, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The two main music categories were best original song and best original score. Best Original song went to “Golden” from the Netflix hit movie K-pop Demon Hunters, an animated movie that blew up the charts and remained as the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit for over 8 weeks. For Best Original Score, “Sinners” came out on top, an action film on HBO Max.
This year, a brand new category was added to the esteemed ceremony in addition to the preexisting film and television awards: podcasts. The first ever Golden Globes Best Podcast Award went to Good Hang with Amy Poehler. As one student at Highland Park, Harper Moschin, noted, “It was cool to see podcasts finally getting recognized- people listen to them just as much as they watch shows now.”
The 2026 Cecil B. DeMille Award was presented to actor and producer Dame Helen Mirren and is a testament to her commitment to inspiring future generations. The 2026 Carol Burnett award was won by Sarah Jessica Parker, a six time golden globe winner, actress, and producer, highlighting her outstanding career achievements across multiple media forms.
In the film category, some additional memorable film awards included; “Hamnet” for Best Motion Picture (drama), “One Battle after Another” for Best Motion Picture (musical or comedy), “Sinners” for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Wagner Moura from “The Secret Agent” for Best Performance by a Male Actor and Motion Picture Drama, Rose Byrne from “If I had Legs I’d Kick you” for Best Performance by Female Actor in a Motion Picture (musical or comedy), and “The Secret Agent” for Best Motion Picture Non-English language.
In television categories, The Pitt won Best Television Series Drama, The Studio for Best Television Series (musical or comedy), and the limited series Netflix original, Adolescence, won many categories. These include Best Television Limited Series, Stephen Graham’s Best Performance by Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture, and Erin Doherty for Best Performance by Female Actor and a Supporting Role on Television, and, finally, 16-year-old Owen Cooper for Best Performance by a Male Actor and a Supporting Role on Television. The 83rd annual Golden Globes commemorated this past sensational year for television, film, and podcasts that was only made possible by the talented actors, directors, and producers who contributed to it.
The night, overall, was a testament to the hard work of all cast and crew members in film and television this year and set the scene for another exciting award season!
