Highland Park High School’s Hot Cocoa Fridays are Back! Each week, HPHS is spreading warmth this December by offering free Hot Chocolate before school on Fridays. The event only runs throughout December, allowing the HPHS community to have something to look forward to during the winter blues and amidst the stress of finals. This small but delicious treat has become a huge part of the HPHS experience.
Students like Sophomore Camila Ariza have bought into the excitement of this warm, chocolatey drink. After a year of the famous Hot Cocoa Fridays, Ariza was able to find joy in the winter mornings, expressing appreciation for its taste and impact on her morning.
“Hot chocolate is really fun, and it’s a warm little treat in the morning. It makes me look forward to the winter and makes my school day better,” Ariza said. “I love socializing and meeting up with my friends before class,”
Freshman Land Moore has heard the “hype” around the Hot Cocoa Fridays and is already sad for it to end.
“Why are hot cocoa Fridays only twice?” Moore said. “I wish it were longer. I’m excited to see what everyone is hyping up.”
Moore is positive that this small tradition will “lift my spirits [during] the cold winter [mornings].” He sure is ready to end his first semester on a high note with his hot chocolate in hand.
Meanwhile, Senior Jill Moyer isn’t ready to let go of the “vibes” Friday brings.
“I will miss the warm hot chocolate and the festive music [Friday] when I’m at college,” Moyer said. “My favorite part [of the morning] is hanging out with my friends, vibing to the music, and drinking delicious hot chocolate. [Hot cocoa Fridays] really bonds our “Casa on Vine” community, [since] it’s a fun winter activity that everyone can participate in!”
Instead of dreading the school mornings, with the help of hot cocoa, students are finding the chocolate lining of the winter season. Sadly, these mornings don’t last all year. Don’t miss your chance to join the fun and feel the joyous atmosphere– arrive early on Fridays this December!
